Steven,
I have an objection to equipment costing what it costs. is.
I'll stick with EBAY until my powerball numbers come up
David
Let me tell you guys about sticker shock I encountered last week. I
hadn't been to an eye Doctor in about 6 Yrs. The last time I went, I had
to get new lenses for my glasses. It wasn't too bad. I went to Pearl
Vision center with a coupon and medical insurance and wound up spending
about $150.That was for 2 pairs of glasses and clip on sunglasses.
I remember thinking it was a bit pricey, but not terrible.
I went to the eye Doctor last week and discovered I needed bifocals.
Since I am about 25yrs south of retirement age, I didn't want those
split lenses my parents and grandparents had, so I am getting these
lightweight "Space Age" lenses that are called multifocal(Different
focal points for driving, reading and just normal viewing)with a glare
resistant coating that supposedly reduces eye strain (since I spend at
least 8 hours a day in front of a computer)and they also include
magnetic sunglasses(for the price thats the least they could do!). This
one pair of glasses is costing me $400 with insurance. If I went with 2
separate pairs,it would have cost even more!!
I won't tell you who the billion dollar company I work for is, but I
will tell you our medical benefits(like most companies these days) have
steadily declined over the years. More out of pocket than ever.
Now that being said, maybe we need to setup some kind of investment
program for Hams who want to get new equipment every 3yrs.They would
invest $25/ month starting the first 60 days they are licensed or when
they first start studying. At %5 interest in 3yrs you have over $2000
to put towards new toys.
There would also be a stipulation that they could use xxx dollars after
obtaining their license to get on VHF.
Anyone interested?
