The -7 is called an SSID. It is used in packet so that one callsign can be
used on more than one station on the same frequency on packet radio. SInce
teh original apcket infrastructure relied totally on RF links, or
digipeaters, it was common for one ham to have 2 or more stations on the air
as digipeaters as well as his home station. Our local club had both a
Packetcluster and 2 digipeaters on 144.910, with both digi'd using the club
call, W9AWE but with SSID's of -1 and -2 to keep them separated from each
other traffic wise. You may see SSID'd as high as -15.
The EM42>FN42 will tell you more about where W1OW and KE5HTG are.
