Likewise here in Texas, Saturday I was at Flatonia, Tx. late at night 
& my mobile rig only drew in some faint signals that were barely 
above the white noise, could not read anything to spite spending 
several hours scanning the SSB end of the band.

In Houston we do have five  6 Meter  repeaters, one of which is 
linked to the Salt Grass Link System (many 2m & 70 cm repeaters in SE 
Texas.), the Salt grass Link repeater system administrator often puts 
6 meters on his linked system when the FM end of the 6 meter band is 
active, which rarely lasts over 20 minutes on any given instance..
