Haven't looked at the site recently. but regarding Tom's comments.
In a previous life I was a professional web designer... it was common
knowledge that the average attention span of an adult surfing the
internet is 8 seconds.
Most major (and smart) websites target a 2-4 second load time (ideally
2). (why the google interface is so simple). a well designed quick
loading website should shoot for loading the first page in under 4
seconds on an average connection. This leaves the design and content
four seconds to "hook" the surfer into staying on the website for a
while longer. Once you've hooked the surfer on your site they will
normally tolerate higher load times assuming there is good content and
not just "fluff and stuff."
Oh, and don't forget the three click rule.
There is so much stratagy in web design, it's almost like a game
sometimes.
and btw... six has been extremely quite round here.

Mike,
I like the uncomplicated version of the Page that you are working on. I
had big problems loading the page on a previous PC with Windows 98SE, on
dialup. The graphics are impressive, but I agree that speed of loading
the first page is a high priority.
I am not a Web page coder, this is a layman's opinion.
Best wishes to Jerry N4AVM.
