Over water 144 SSB can be a good choice for this distance. Granted FM
would be marginal but SSB just may pull it off. I used to make
frequent Q's with another ham on 146.46 FM simplex that were 107
miles, most of it over water along the Texas coastal bend, since both
of us live near the coast.
Now onto your antenna selection. You didn't indicate sail or power.
Sail is great because of the mast. I'd stack KB6KQ loops on top. If
power, I'd look into some type of a fiberglas mast fitted to mount
your typical maritime antenna mast mount and again use stacked loops.
