I got started in 1959 and about the only way we could work DX here in the  
USA was to work it cross band. All of Europe was not allowed on six,  there were 
many cross band contacts as a result of this. Times change, by the  next 
sunspot peak you may have privileges for the 6 meter band. We on this side  of the 
world hope so. Good luck on getting an experimental license, that is  a 
start.
