Well all we have here is a 40m dipole through a tuner and we did 7 contacts in the northeast. Some were 350+ miles so it wasn't all too bad.
The intent is to get the kids on the air and encourage them to have fun. When the local conditions went south... (no pun intended) I switched them over to 2m and 70cm linked repeaters and continued that way. The key was to let the kids have some supervised fun on the radio...
I stayed with in my privilages and the kids ( a whole gang of them) had fun.... 7 (6m) contacts and a slue of repeaters stuff which I didn't log.. I eqsl'ed all the 6m contacts as they happened with each childs name in the thank you line. If the stations eqsl or qsl in return I will give the cards to the kids as a way to remind them of the fun of Ham Radio.
I hope that the June Kids Day will include a 6m calling frequency and the band is wide open next time around. I encourage everyone on list here to find and invite a group of kids over and let them operate on Kids Day in June. Whether it be 70cm, 2m, 6m, or any band you are privilaged for, let's encourage kids to get radioactive!
