I just had a QSO yesterday with a guy in Evansville IN....funny thing,
my original 6m FM
rig, a Genave GTX600 (which I still have after 30 years but it does show
its age!), came from that area and had the xtals in it for the rptr
there (52.575/52.92 - talk about
ODDBALL split!!) The guy I talked with yesterday was running the
original AMP off that
rptr...he had modified it for SSB and was doing about 150 or so....
Most FM amps can be modified for SSB with some forward bias applied to
the base of the xstr (CAREFULLY! Too much will blow the junction)....You
need to change the base input
ckt slightly but it could be done...(I may need to do that to this
one..I could
drive it with my TS680....hmmmm! Hey, I may not sell this one after
all!)
I did some searching on Google and found this:
http://www.radioworld.co.uk/tokyo_hl50b.htm
and don't forget:
http://www.communication-concepts.com
You can see how they bias their kit amps...and may be able to use that
as
base design for a 50MHz amp.
