[SixClub] Interference question?

OH! You're in OKC!! Ok.......(have a couple of good friends at Citadel
Broadcast there..KATT and the others; interviewed for the Asst CE job
but we could not
agree on salary..which was too bad...would have liked working for Mike,
their Chief Engineer..who is also a ham)....

Doesn't matter what OG&E's attitude is....FCC will fix that! :) I've
used Sprague's TVI box at 135MHz myself....it is not sensitive (but for
AM/noise you don't need a lot)..
BUT since you have a sensitive 6mtr rig, here some ideas:

Try to get the bearing where the noise peaks....draw it out on a street
map and check where the line crosses roads etc at night on a dry
evening..look
for a blue or green haze or arc; IF you cannot see it, also use a
portable AM radio if you think you are close to it (by listening on the
mobile...use attenuator to
get the level down as you get closer to the noise source)...I found a
NOISY pole once with one though the line crew kidded me on it..the
problem was a loose ground
downlead arcing against a loose washer on 35KV 3 phase.....(20KV
single/34.5-35KV 3phase is the worst noise generator I have seen...but
you could have
problems with lower voltages.....usually it is hardware like loose bells
or tie wires...on the higher dist voltage lines, ANYTHING in the near
field of the
conductors is STATIC CHARGED...and any chance to arc to ground WILL
cause it to do so....I did MANY years of TVI work on such lines in rural
areas north of Houston TX: Huntville and Trinity to be exact.....)

Line noise at 135Mhz is much lower than 50MHz when a distance away...you
need to find out a closer area as to the source...and then push OG&E to
fix it..
they MUST under federal law....no if, aint's or butts!

I was wondering if the music on the HT was intermod. It probably is
because I can't hear it on my 706 in the house or the RCI 5054DX in the
car. The only reason that I was using 135 mhz was that is the frequency
of OG&E's only means of "sniffing" out interference. He has a 135 mhz
AM receiver with a small yagi antenna mounted on it, and to be honest it
doesn't seem very sensitive at all.

My house service is underground but I have overhead lines about 200 feet
east and most of the rest of the area is overhead service. Don't have
TV2 and radio and TV stations are many miles away (other side of OKC).

I'm afraid that OG&E's attitude is now "we've fixed some problems and
that's all you'll get".
