[SixClub] Looking for a high quality 6M amp

I've been waiting on a new Alpha 6 for nearly a year.
http://www.alpha-amps.com/index.html

It's my "speculation" based a few conversations, they are looking at
redesigning around a different tube, but with the relatively low demand for
6-meter amps compared to HF, I'd guess it may take a long time coming.

That 4CX-1600B is one nice tube. Maybe Svetlana will make another batch one
of these days. Are they still in business? Their home page hasn't worked
for over a year, but the last I knew the other pages were still there, but
I've lost the links now.

> Watch out about the Alpha 6. It uses a tube which is very hard to get now,
the 4CX1600B rooskie tube. I asked them about the future availability of the
tubes for several months without a single reply to my emails, so finally
gave up and bot a used HB unit.

The Henry line http://www.henryradio.com/
There is the Henry 2006A, 2506A and the 3006A with the 2006 offering 1000
watts from a single 3CX-800 , the 2506A with 1500W from a single 3CPX-800
and the 3006A with the full legal limit plus change from an 8877/4CX1500A7.
It depends on which literature you check, but the 2006 and 2506 appear to be
desk top units while the 3006 is a *heavy* floor console.

 The Command Amps: http://www.command1.com/

With the Commander VHF 1200 (1200 watts out on SSB, 650 watts continuous)
and VHF 2000 (1.5 KW out on SSB and 1KW continuous). The VHF 2000 still
says "Available after type acceptance", but there are a few "test" examples
floating around.

All these are some what pricy, but they are very good amps. My only
complaint about the *big* Henry is ... well... It is is big and very heavy.
Shipping weight is 200 pounds.

I've been thinking of getting another Alpha 76 and converting it, or the
current one to 6-meters. The prices vary, but I've seen so called *mint*
76As going for under $900 to as high as $1400. It seems to matter little if
they are two, or three holers. They are very easy to drive compared to the
3-500Zs. If the 3-500s didn't take so much push I'd convert my old Henry
2K4 to 6.

The only down side to the older Alphas is the tubes are *expensive*. I've
heard of them being converted from the 8874s to the 3CX800s, but not being
familiar with the 3CX 800 I'm not sure what is involved.

I never heard of the ACOM before ( http://www.acom-bg.com/ ), but I make it
a practice not to purchase anything from a company that doesn't give the
price right up front. I couldn't even find prices, but that may have been
due to just being sleepy. Alpha, Henry, and Command Tech all have the
prices listed.

Good Luck,
