Rich,
Power line noise on 6m can be a significant problem.  I presently have a 
work order into our local power company (BGE) to diagnose and fix a power 
line problem that causes S9 noise on 6m and S7 noise on 2m.  I don't hear a 
thing from the power line problem on HF.
