Actually, you will hear quite a bit with an indoor antenna as long as it has 
some height on it and the band is open.  I worked Ecuador from SC on a dipole 
in the attic. Obviously, the band was open that morning but I have also worked 
into GA and NC when the band was not open with a similar setup.
