Greg,
The company I work for is Tampa Armature Works and they are headquartered in Tampa. Anything motor or gearbox related they can handle. The best way to do this is take the motor and gearbox out and take it to the shop. They will do a tear down inspection and give you a quote. If you want them to remove it the cost will go way up. Not as expensive as flying a tech in from New England but it is around $75 an hour on straight time for field work. If you talk to the shop foreman you may be able to get a man to do it on the side.
I am assuming this is a single phase motor. being the operating enviroment is outside it is probably a TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled motor) with a cast iron frame. These can get real pricey. $100-$150 a horsepower for standard frames and lots more for special ones.. So unless the motor frame is something special if the price of repairs is 60% or more of what a new one cost, get the new one.
As for the gearbox, all they will do is change bearings and seals. The bearing fits can be repaired but if a gear is bad they will have to buy one.
You may get lucky and all thats needed is a centrifical switch ( to change from the start winding to the run winding) . Get the bearings replaced while it is disassembled,it is cheap insurance.
Too bad I am in Augusta, GA or I would do it.
Good luck and let me know how it goes,
