Radials need to be about 2-5% longer than the vertical element in a
groundplane and if you slope them down at a 30-45 deg angle, you will
raise the imdepance of the antenna to 50 ohms (a 1/4wave vertical
actually is 36 ohms Z).
BUT since you have TWO whips, make a vertical dipole!!...one whip up and
the other down...tie the coax center to one and the shield to the other
(CB shops and some ham stores carry a mount made just for this!
HamSticks also sells it...but I dont think RS does) and now you are
done..no need for a ground plane...BUT be careful...the end of the
bottom of the dipole is HI RF voltage! don't touch it and make sure it
is completely away from anything!
