You really dont see the difference MOST of the time......actually a 
CIRCULAR polarized antenna works best in skip or DX mode....because any 
shifts in polarization is ignored by the CP antenna....a Linear antenna 
may "see" a reflection shift from one pol to another and yes, you could 
end up with a deep fade then....but with a CP antenna, you only lose 3db 
or so all the time...and have less fades due to pol shifts.
