As it is now, a Technician is stuck in repeater land.

Jeff, I must slightly disagree with you about Tech priviledges. You are not
stuck in repeater land - try 2m SSB, 70cm simplex (and repeaters), and then
try LEO sats. I have had so much fun on the sats recently (the neighbours
wonder what on earth I am doing in the middle of the night pointing an
antenna at the sky but I dont care!) and then on to microwave. Dont forget
Echolink as well (not strictly ham radio but thats another discussion).

I figure it this way. If BPL does take hold then I am positioning myself
for the VHF/UHF and higher now! I would encourage you to try the sats
though, its so much fun!

My personal situation is that I am a fully licensed UK ham who emigrated and
made the stupid mistake of then taking and passing the tech exam. The result
of that was that I immediately lost my recipricol arrangements. I could be
sitting here on all bands, all modes with just the addition of a W4/ before
my callsign! - "doh", and double "doh"!

Then I took and passed the General written, but I really cant get the code
anymore and have no real inclination to ever use it. So whatever happens I
am trying to cover all the bases now. Get upgraded to General (eventually)
and have the HF bands again, BPL comes in - go higher (because there will
not be any HF bands)

Again all IMHO!
