Well folks just wait for the BPL to start-up. You might as well give a =
general ticket to anyone. You will never be able to use HF =
anyway........

Snip... the only way to achieve that is to make the entry point =
easier!

David you are right, this is the direction the Ham Community has =
taken.
I think we can all see that the "value" of becoming a ham has =
diminished
greatly in the last 10 years for new prospects. I for one am not sure
that the problem is related to tests or learning the code. If a young
person wants to learn the theory and code they will but if it is given
to them, they will increase our numbers but I doubt seriously if they
become outstanding operators with any concern about the furtherance =
and
  development of ham radio.=20

When you have to work for something, really hard serious work I am
talking about then you appreciate and value what you have earned. If =
it
is given to you, your entire feeling about the hobby is diminished and
lacking in purpose of achievement you become dissatisfied.=20

So I merely think we have gone down the wrong path. We are more
concerned about preserving the spectrum than we are about improving =
the
quality of our fraternity / radio community to draw new members. =
Growth
is nice but not at the risk of making amateur radios an "Easy A".
(College students look for the easy "A's" like the history of rock and
  roll or square dancing).=20

I hope those making the decision about the entry levels are right, I
  love this hobby...

  Ok I vented, tnx...
