All,

Just arrived - a stick of 5 LM380 audio amplifiers. I am expecting an
LM380 card from K5OG - thanks, Fred! But for the nonce, I think I'll
dead-bug one on a piece of single-sided PC board stock. These
are the 14-pin LM380's. The middle three pins on both sides are all
grounds, and also conduct heat out
to the substrate.

I have totally depopulated an area of the power supply card, and I can
glue the single-sided PC
board stock right to the board. I'm thinking just a few dots of
electronics-grade silicone - so
in the future I can pry it off if needed.

The LM380 can run direct off +15V. To bad it's not +/-10V - I'd be
able to go DC coupled for
the output. +/- 15V is above the absolute maximum rating of the chip.

With a working audio amplifier, I think I'll be ready to put the case
back on!

One complication: What about anti-vox? The original setup was audio
from a winding on the output
transformer. With no output transformer, there's no winding, right? I
suppose I could couple the low impedance output of the amp to the
low-impedance "output" winding of the transformer, but I wonder what
that will do to the frequency response of the system? I'd honestly
rather not have a transformer in
there at all if I can help it.

                        - Jerry, KF6VB
