    I think that relay is about as close to unobtainium as anything in 
the radio.

Gotta say, I'm not a big fan of clacking relays.

   My understanding of how it works now:  The PA is continuously 
connected to the
antenna;  for T/R switching, we turn the tube off by raising the bias to 
-60V, and
connect the receiver to the antenna with a reed relay contact.  In 
transmit, we
disconnect the receiver from the antenna and ground its input.

   So there is no power-carrying relay.  That should make PIN-diode 
conversion
simpler.
