*** I noticed something like that.  Maybe.  Listening to a signal - all 
the band noise -
I start turning the RF gain down.  To a certain extent, as I turn it 
down, the band noise gets less while the signal
stays the same!  So maybe the "band noise" is generated inside the 
radio?  Also the SSB voice I'm listening too
sounds harsh at full RF gain.  Turn it down, and the voice gets 
smoother.

   Right now, I have bigger ( transmitter ) fish to fry.
