As you may remember, my Ebay CX7A came to me with burnt switch contacts
in the PA.

The switch is now fixed. I did not wait for the proper brass screws.
Not so much because of impatience, but
because of fear. Fear that I would not remember all the stuff that I
took apart. Fear that some detail would
escape me regardless of pictures, notes, and labels.

I have a kit of screws for repairing eyeglasses. Appropriate screws
and nuts were found. Also plastic washers
to protect the delicate ceramic of the wafer. I replaced three
contacts. Two were totally gone, and the third
was somewhat charred. DON'T want to take this apart again! I used
Loktite on the screws.

Reviewing the schematic, this particular switch is ONLY used for the
"broadband" tuning. On those
bands, I could have just tuned manual and enjoyed the radio. Oh well.
Broadband is better, right?

Actually, I think "broadband" is a marketing misnomer. The broadband
setting just replaces the tune and load
capacitors with trimmers. That's ALL it does. I think that "preset
tunings" would be more like it.
Does one tune cover a whole ham band?

Am now rebuilding the stack of switches and coils. For the most part,
it's going together reasonably easily.
The wires from the coils are quite stiff, and they tend to be right
where they need to be; just push them back on & solder. And I have
adequate pictures to verify and insure the clocking of the wafers.

A few parts are coming in on Monday. But the all-important CA3028A to
fix the transmitter - not till Wednesday :(.
