Hi Peter and Hi also to you Ed.
Happy New Year!
I sent the following in response to another request for SN info recently.
It echos what Ed said. I am going to diligently look for my notes on
the SNs and dates of production. They date back to the early 2000s but
I know they are here somewhere. HI HI It may be 2 or 3 weeks but I
will add this info to the web site and alert everyone here when it is done.
As for the serial numbers here is what we know. And I am doing this
from memory as I thought I had this info on the web site but I do not.
I have the notes around here somewhere but it could take quite a while
to find them. I will do it after the first as this information should
be posted. So I hope my memory serves me well and the following info is
correct.
The FL rigs had 5 digit SNs starting at 00100 or 00101 (not certain).
The CA rigs had 9 and 10 digit SNs and to this day we can't figure out
what the hell they were doing. There is no logical pattern to the numbers.
The CA rigs were certainly CX7As but actually there were some of the
later FL rigs that had most of the updates in them. So it is difficult
to say that at a certain SN they actually became CX7As. There were also
a very few rigs with SNs 71-xxx. I can't remember why right now.
Most of the radios have had many if not all of the A mods and most have
also had the IC power supply upgrade done. The early power
supplies....well, they just sucked. The pass transistors were
constantly failing.
If you have most of the A mods, as I expect you do, and you have the LED
keyer/counter and you have the IC power supply mods then what you have
is considered a CX7B. There were 3 or 4 CX7Bs made in NJ right before
the CX11 came out. The LED board is essentially a CX11 board with a
different LED configuration.
I have 2 CX7s that I consider to be B models.
