[SignalOne] CW Filters

It's a nice thought, Scott, to add optional filters to rigs but be advised that in the case of the S1's it did not always produce better results. This is discussed in the old newsletters, the problem being that the filters were not always correctly well matched. Thus the more popular method of inserting the old MFJ audio filter which also was somewhat dicely depending on where it was actually inserted. My solution was to just utilize my homebrew dsp unit that I had leftover from my Paragon days. Not only does this give me several choices of audio width but it also adds noise reduction and auto-notching to the rig. The dsp noise reduction can be used along with the CX-7's noise reduction.

I did actually locate one of the old MFJ audio units at a hamfest for $1 just when I was first getting my CX-7 back operational and thinking of adding one if it could still be found. After rereading the discussions in the newsletters I was having some doubts and then the light came on and I remembered how well the dsp unit had worked with my Paragon. Problem solved. I would recommend seeing if you can locate any of the better old outboard dsp units as the S1's are pretty good up front as is unless you want to use it for a lot of contesting. Sorry so late in posting this but have been fielding a lot of other stuff of late. Hope this helps.
