[SignalOne] ALC overshoots

Hello Signal/One fellows,
I am in the process of repairing/restoring two S/One Milspecs 1030.
While measuring output power with a fast pep wattmeter I recognize
short but strong overshoots of output power. This seems to be due to
slow ALC action.
When trying to feed one of these modern semiconductor linears this
power overshoot in the beginning of speech syllables in ssb operation
is more than high enough to make the linear's processor controlled
input power limit control shut down the amplifier. Only tube
amplifiers are able to accept this kind of signal. Transistor linear
operation is - even with strongly reduced output power of the
transceiver - not possible.
Did anybody experience the same phenomenon and has tried to speed up ALC?
