I now again have a CX11A . SN10649701..I am going thru it and installing
all of Paul's mods. At this point I have some questions. The
schematics all show FL1 as the small almost square unit.. FL2 and FL3
as the units mounted flat on the outside edge of A8, the IF board. FL4
should be the CW2 filter mounted on the bracket above FL1, and FL5
would the CW3 filter mounted on the bracket above FL2.
I assumed that FL2 and FL3..because they were indentical .. would be
cascaded.. according to the schematics, they are not. FL1 and FL2 are
cascaded in AM, USB and LSB. while FL1 and FL3 are cascaded in CW1... I
must getting dense n my old age, but this does not make sense to me.
Can somebody explain?
My unit had both a 400hz Blue Tyco and a 300hz Silver color unit made by
Crystal D???????.
The ink is smeared and cannot read the entire name. The 400hz unit is
installed in CW3 and the 300hz unit is in position CW2. I would think
this is backward. My unit has the IF amp installed..it appears factory,
but it is installed on the CW2 filter [300 hz].. Do both filters, the
300 and 400 hz need an amp?.. I have laid out an amp board, but dont
really want ot burn it and etch it if I dont need a second one.
Sorry to be so long winded, but this damn filter thing has me scratching
my head.
The CX11A I had previously, did NOT have the multicolor screen front
panel.. It might be my antique eyes, but I cannot read the yellow.. are
they all like this or has mine faded?
Last question.. does any one have a source for some of the relays in the
unit. I have spent a week on the net and called about every company
around looking for the following :"
MAGNECRAFT W174DIP-1 EXT AMP SWITCHING RELAY
MAGNECRAFT W172DIP-8 RCVR TR RELAY
MAGNECRAFT W102RMPCX-3 OUTPUT POWER T/R RELAY.
Either they did nit have them, or they had a 250-500 dollar minimum.
If these are not available, any one have subs for them?
Hope I can get some feedback on all the above.
Thanks
Doc K8RR.
