Uli, Thanks for your help.  I see there's an Irish parts distributor that
sells the transistors for 5.99 euros for 5 transistors, with a 20 euro
import fee.  So I tried to align the AGC and found that the pot was bad.  I
replaced it and the radio works fine, now.  There was a bad connection
between one of the pins and the resistive element of the pot.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to repair the bad connection without breaking
the pot, so I had to replace it.  Thanks for your help!!  Regards, John

You may use BF981/BF982. If you registrate self oscillation insert a series
resistor direktly to the drain of about 100 ... 470 Ohms.
