First the scammer alert. I bid on a Hallicrafters SX-88 last week. I
saw it at $650 and dropped a bid of $950 on it, about all I can afford.
I didn't expect to win it but you never know.
Since then, I have received three of these scammer emails:

============= End SCAM email, stop laughing ==
This idiot expects someone to believe that he has an SX-88? I don't
think so.
HHResco is my bidding account.
One scammer claimed that he had THREE SX-88/HT-32A:, new in boxes and
if I took all three, he'd give me a 20% discount.
Stop laughing, guys. It's only funny because the SX-88 is a 50+ year
old, extremely rare, collectable radio and these emails are obviously a
scam.
If the "bait" were something like an IC-746 and the patter included the
statement that, "We're liquidating these out the back door..." it might
be almost believeable.
As S/1's are rare collectable and some are expensive, radios, some of
you might encounter these scammers.
Now the CX7A update.
I've been measuring and fitting the Be block parts to convert the CX7A
back to an 8072. It's looking more and more possible. I haven't
printed out the manual yet. I haven't hooked up the Laserjet to my
Internet machine. Right now it just has an inkjet printer on it.
I've asked a fellow for a couple 8072's. He has some land mobile RF
decks and can pull the tubes from them. I'm guessing that pulls will
almost certainly have life left in them but that I should have two,
just in case.
Does this sound like the proper sequence?
1) remove 4CX350F tube.
2) photograph and draw schematic of 4CX350F socket and plate wiring.
3) compare schematic to S/1 schematic.
4) identify filament, screen, HV power leads.
5) measure voltages.
5a) measure voltages on driver.
5b) discharge voltages.
6) compare wiring on 8072 socket subassembly to S/1 schematic.
7) install 8072 socket subassembly and connect to power supply and HV.
8) with the tube out, measure the voltages. Verifying proper
connection.
8a) discharge voltages.
9) install the tube and have at it.
Double check everything.
Don't know if anyone here is interested but I'm more a Heathkit buff
than S/1. I have SB-303's and an SB-313. I buy "guarenteed dead, if
this radio starts to work within 30 days, return for a full refund"
radios on eBay. I like to clean up the radios, lube up and De-Ox-Id
the controls, get the mechanicals right and replace the bad caps and
resistors.
Those old radios work almost as well as new ones.
de ah6gi/4 I hope to be have the S/1 working by fall.
