Is the (separate from the cabinet) bottom RF compartment shield in place? 
Mine did this (turning it on outside the cabinet... there was no shield 
with it, despite the appearance of the (pardon the invented word) 
"mountability" of one, and I'm convinced that was the deal-I had to put it 
up to perform the wife's ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CLEANUP FRENZY before I could 
find out-and have not been able to get back to it. Also, using one of those 
45xx whatever Motorolas instead of an 8072 MAY have been a problem... 
despite interchangeability claims-they surely OUGHT to work. And/or 
individual tube gain problems causing self-osc. I just have not been able 
to get back to it to find out.
