Hello Everybody --

Nice to read about other folks besides myself
getting caught up in the challenge of fixing CX7 units. I
am finishing my second, this one a CX7A/B. It has required
many repairs and replacements, but is going to be the best.
I hesitate on mods because some I have tried do not work
properly. On this one I have added a deluxe cw filter and that
needed the filter amp, which I made. It has the late ps and
audio amp, so no mods needed there (repairs, yec, mods no).
Many, many repairs. Most recent was to fix rf agc response.
Does not get into negative range. Cause was low voltate on
t/r line. Cause was r 65 on audio board had shifted to 48 from
12 ohms, learned that another unit I have for parts had r65 and
r66, which are in T/R and R/T lines, resp shorted out the
resistors. I did this and now the lines are good and stiff and all
is well. This is one of many repairs. All of which taught me
something and made me feel pretty darned good.

Also, I have had the epoxy paint mixed and have used this
with appropriate primer to refinish several cabinets. I have obtained
re-engraved push buttons. Everything looks like new when I get
done. This is certainly a labor of love and not for profit! And it takes
me a good Year to finish a unit.

I am going to install the Paul K. rit mod. I have parts ready
but if anyone has access to one of these units that Paul produced,
along with the little faceplate I would be interested. I have lots of
CX7 parts to trade and/or can handle any reasonable cost. If I do
it myself I will produce a small faceplate and finish it with the epoxy
paint I already have.

Enough. Thanks all for sharing their experience.

Dave, AB7B
