Hi, guys (gals?) ...

Just got notice of this list from Bill KA4GAV, so here I am. He saw mention
of my CX7A on my web pages, and mentioned the list.

My rig was a basket case when bought in 1993 - power supply board had been
removed for re-capping but no work done. I really studied the manual and
got it hooked back up properly. Then tracked down a few blown germanium
diodes in the T/R path. Then discovered an audio FET in place of the proper
FET on the input to the driver board! Then discovered the bias on the
driver transistors was way off, and added resistors to get that squared
away. Then discovered the PA bandswitch wiring had been screwed around
with, and got that fixed. Later some of the mods passed on to me my Mark
Mandelkern, KN5S, and it's working pretty well. If memory serves me right,
I did the following:

power supply updated with 3-terminal regulators

ALC circuit that limits drive with screen current

VFO switch mods for less jumping in frequency with VFO switch

New audio amp - LM380 circuit

It gets sporadic use since I'm also working on - and even using - an
evolving homebrew rig, but I keep it going.

Fun radio... but interesting that a rig that cost that much had that many
rough edges that folks had to evolve so many mods for it. Of course I know
the history now, that it was rushed to market.

Anyway, let's see if there's any activity on the list.
