This is what it takes to set an all-time Field Day record:

Here is their 2011 summary:

Thanks to excellent conditions on all HF bands and 6 meters, perfect
weather, months of preparation, what must have been record participation
by the amateur community, and the MANY PVRC'ers who turned out to work
us on multiple band/modes, the W3AO VRC/CARA team finally broke the
all-time record for number of QSO's in ARRL Field Day---a record which
had stood for 30 years!

Our preliminary count is 12,172 QSO's, not
counting 376 GOTA QSO's in excess of the 500 Q max. (We had so many
GOTA ops that our GOTA station ran almost the full 24 hours, and GOTA
coach KE3Q got virtually no sleep!) The previous record of 11,201 QSOs
was set by the Yankee Clippers Contest Club and friends operating W1VV/1
in 1981---a fantastic effort running KW's on all bands.

The math says that W3AO averaged just over 500 QSO's/hour for the
entire 24 hour period! Now to see who won the PVRC plaque for most
QSO's with W3AO/KE3Q in FD 2011!

73,

Rol, K3RA, PVRC FD Chairman
Dave, W8AJR, CARA FD Chairman
