Winter Weather Advisory
Statement as of 10:46 PM PDT on April 06, 2011
...Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 am PDT
Thursday...
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and gusty winds remains in
effect until 11 am PDT Thursday.
* Timing: snow will develop overnight and continue into Thursday
morning before tapering to snow showers. The heaviest period of
snowfall is expected to be between 4 am and 8 am Thursday.
* Snow accumulations: 1 to 3 inches...with 3 to 5 inches in the
foothills west of Reno and Carson City.
* Snow levels: 5500 to 6500 feet falling rapidly to valley
floors once heavier precipitation begins.
* Impacts: snow is expected to cause a slick commute Thursday
morning in the Reno and Carson City areas. Gusty winds with
snow may cause localized visibilities below 1/4 mile...
mainly before sunrise Thursday.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Snow is expected to pose an inconvenience to travelers. Roads
will become slick and hazardous...with snow and ice first
developing on bridges and overpasses. Motorists should slow
down... use caution...and be prepared for a longer commute than
usual. Check our website at weather.Gov/Reno or listen to NOAA
Weather Radio for updates.
