 **

There are great distances between National Weather Service facilities
throughout our area. Our unpredictable weather offers a challenge to the
Reno National Weather Service Forecast Office. There are tools available at
Reno to help forecasting - Doppler Radar and weather satellites - but
forecasting is not the same as what's happening right now.

Nothing replaces the person on the ground able to communicate with Reno.
"Communicate" being the operative word, there's nothing more reliable than
ham radio.

So, a very few times a year, the Reno folks will put on a spotter course.
It's referred to as the SKYWARN Spotter Program. The course is wonderful
for first timers and invaluable as a refresher.

The course prepares one for passing valuable information to Reno.

The next course is destined for August 7 at the United Methodist Church on
Centerville Lane.  1 PM.

IMAGINE THAT! It's our SIERA monthly meeting - same place, same time.

Educational....and offering another avenue for amateur radio to perform a
public service.

SIERA - who knows what wonders are just around the corner.
