Mark Spencer WA8SME is the Guest Speaker for the SIERA General meeting on 18
September 2008.
Mark will show us the basics of using computer based tracking software to
find the operating schedule of the satellite (when will the satellite be in
range of my station?), and predicted frequency offset (Doppler shift). What
is the Doppler shift, and how to correct for the shift during your QSO.
Which regions of the earth have access to the spacecraft - who is in QSO
range?
Using a dual band handheld radio, and a dual band hand held directional
antenna with the results of the tracking program you can have a QSO on a
satellite. With a bit of luck maybe AO-51 will be making a pass that
evening during the meeting, so we may experience a hands on live QSO.
The SIERA Meeting takes place on the 18th of September starting a 7:00 PM.
The meeting takes place at the Methodist Church on Centerville Lane, in
Gardnerville. Come on over, learn about Low Orbit Satellites, visit with
fellow amateur radio operators, and have a good time.
The Coffee is hot and the goodies will be there as well. Everyone is
welcome.
