On the 27th of October 2007 the Nevada Day Parade took place on a =
beautiful
day. The weather was perfect for the event. Members of the Sierra
Intermountain Emergency Radio Association, and other volunteer Amateur =
Radio
Operators provided communications along the parade route. Operators =
were
stationed at each of the announcer stations, and other key locations to
relay changes in the lineup of entries.
At times the noise levels from the bands, and other entry=92s made
communications difficult. If a transmitting station waited for a quiet =
time
to transmit, the receiving stations would be experiencing the band or =
other
noise,.=85.go figure!=20
An event such as this most likely should use a headset and a noise =
canceling
microphone. Something to keep in mind next year. Any other ideas in
operating in a high noise level location? Please let me know.
The Parade Board of Directors is extremely pleased with the =
communications
we provided. We had a few minor problems that were identified and
corrected. The net control must be in a quiet location, to insure the
ability to relay information. One major disconnect was multiple names =
for
some locations, and that caused confusion, and a duplicate assignment of
operators. A lesson well learned.
I would like to personally thank everyone that volunteered for the =
event.
We ended up with more operators than requirements. Thank you Terry =
KG0DU
and Kris KD7HFA Philbin; John KD7FPO and Tim KB7TIM Thompson; and June
Bennett N7OWV for volunteering, and being available if we needed =
additional
operators.
The following Amateurs operated during the event: WB6W=96 Glen Thomas, =
N7CPP-
Bruce Pfeiffer, KE7DZY- Austin Cathey, KE7EAA- Ed Goldberg, KD7ERR- =
Kathryn
Pfaffle, KE7HXD- Daryl Haines, KD7LBJ- Gary Budd, KE7NCJ- Tom Tabacco,
KD7NHC- John Abrott, KE7NML- Robert Lapp, KC7PET Leonard Mitchell, N7RAA =
Al
Penaluna, and KV7S- Dale Anderson. ( Tim KB7TIM made some relays from =
his
home for us).
We were able to provide a public service, overcome high noise levels, =
got
the information passed, and learned many things. Applying lessons =
learned
to future events, and not making the same mistakes makes us better
communicators.
Thank you again for a job well done. =20
