The SIERA meeting is on Thursday the 18th of October, starting at 7:00 PM.
The meeting is located at the Carson Valley Methodist Church, 1375
Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, NV.
Our guest speaker is David Catalno from the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
David is a biologist, and had lived in the area for many years. David will
give us an overview of what the NDOW does. David is bringing radio tracking
transmitters that are attached to various animals and birds. Some of the
transmitters use satellite's to pass the telemetry, and others are VHF/UHF.
We often read or hear about the use of tracking devices on wildlife.
Thursday night you will learn how the tracking devices are attached to the
critters, and how the devices are recovered. What type of data is sent, and
how it is used. When I spoke to David on the phone, he was looking forward
to the presentation. He has a lot of energy, and is passionate about his
work. This is a very interesting subject, and we will learn about some of
the basics of wildlife management. Everyone is welcome. Come on over and
enjoy the evening.
The Nominating committee will be introduced, and are available if you are
interested in holding a position as a member of the SIERA Board of
Directors.
Information about the Nevada Day Parade will be available as well.
See you there, the coffee will be hot, and the topic interesting.
