Special Weather Statement
320 am PST Wed Dec 5 2007
...Significant storm becoming more likely for extreme northeast
California and western Nevada later this week...
A low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska will drop to the
northern California coast Thursday and then into Southern
California Friday. Light rain and snow will move into eastern
California and northwestern Nevada Thursday morning...and will
intensify as it spreads south Thursday night and Friday.
In the Surprise Valley in northeast California and far northwest
Nevada snow will move into the area Thursday morning and taper to
showers Thursday night. Up to 2 inches of snow is possible by
Thursday night.
For most of western Nevada...there is a good potential for several
inches of snow in the mountains and foothills. Snow is also likely
down to valley floors...however exact amounts are not certain.
Anywhere from an inch up to several inches of snow is
possible...especially near and south of Interstate 80 by Friday
morning. As the system drops farther south on Friday...and if it
maintains its projected track...this band of snow could move into
Churchill and Mineral counties through the day on Friday.
Anyone commuting or traveling in western Nevada...especially in
the Reno and Carson City areas should be prepared for winter
driving conditions beginning with the evening commute on Thursday
and continuing through Friday. Even though heavier snow amounts
are expected later Thursday night and Friday morning...light snow
accumulations will cause slick roads and difficult driving
conditions. Slow down and allow extra time to arrive at your
destination.
If you are planning travel Thursday or Friday especially into
higher elevations...be prepared for hazardous winter driving
conditions.
Expires:060000 gmt
