SIERA's Repeater Problem
Apparently there is an intermittent connection in the coaxial line feeding
the antenna. This is causing the signal strength of the repeater to lower
when the connection is not fully connected. The repeater can still be
used, but during the periods of low signal strength you may have to use
more power on your rig and a better antenna. Also try increasing your rf
signal gain on the receiver. The connection varies back and forth from the
"good" to "bad" states.
The repeater is located at the end of a dirt road off of the Monitor
pass. At present Monitor pass is closed because of snow. Cal Trans does
not plow Monitor pass during the winter, so we don't expect to have an
opportunity for going up to make repairs until Spring of 2007. Since the
antenna is on the roof of the building up there, we have to bring up an
extension ladder to get to the roof which means that the dirt road has be
clear of snow before we can drive up to the repeater site.
I am not going to turn off the repeater. We have obtained permission from
David O' Hara, KB6DWO, who is trustee for the Mono County RACES repeater
located at the same site as our repeater, to use the Mono County Races
repeater for the SIERA nets. Please put into the memory of your
transceiver(s) the following repeater data:
Frequency: 146.655 Mhz
Offset: Negative
PL Tone: 131.8 Hz
We will start using this repeater on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 for our
nets. I will try to monitor the 147.33 repeater during the nets.
If you have any questions you can call me at (775) 265-4278 or send an

George Uebele, WW7E, repeater trustee
