Special Weather Statement
300 am PST Sat Nov 5 2005
...Pacific storm headed for the Sierra and western Nevada...
A developing Pacific storm will reach the northern California coast
today...and the northern Sierra by Sunday evening. Southwest
winds will increase over the Sierra and western Nevada on Sunday
and Monday ahead of a strong cold front.
Along the cold front moderate to heavy precipitation is possible
in the Sierra from Lassen County southward to the Lake Tahoe
area. At this time snow levels of 7500 to 8000 feet are forecast
for Sunday. As the cold front and heaviest precipitation
nears...snows levels are expected to lower to 5500 to 6500 feet on
Monday.
Precipitation amounts are still uncertain with this storm. However
moist subtropical air is expected to be pulled into the Sierra.
This could produce significant snow accumulations over the higher
elevations of the Lake Tahoe area...with minimal accumulations at
lake level. Over western Nevada light to moderate rainfall is
possible as the cold front passes.
If you plan to travel through western Nevada and the northern
Sierra on Sunday and Monday be prepared for difficult driving
conditions. Stay tuned to the National Weather Service and local
media outlets for further statements on this developing storm.
