916 am PDT Wed may 18 2005
...A Flood Warning has been issued...
For the Susan River...including Susanville...
minor flooding is forecast.
For the West Fork Carson River...including Woodfords...
minor flooding is forecast.
A warm and moist Pacific storm will create moderate to heavy rain in
the Sierra through tonight. Rainfall will combine with melting snow
to produce runoff and significant rises on small creeks and streams
that will pass into mainstem rivers on Thursday.
For the Susan River at Susanville...at 8 am Wednesday the stage was
5.4 feet. Flood stage is 12.0 feet. Minor flooding is
forecast...with a maximum stage of 12.0 feet by early Thursday
morning. The river will decrease to 11.5 feet and remain steady
through Thursday afternoon.
At 12.0 feet...localized minor flooding in Susanville from Richmond
Road downstream along Riverside drive...especially below Piute creek
which enters the river near Alexander drive. About 2400 cfs.
Moderate lowland flooding occurs below Susanville in
Johnstonville...Leavitt Lake...Standish and Litchfield areas. A few
rural roads begin to be affected by flooding.
For the West Fork Carson River at Woodfords...at 9 am Wednesday the
stage was 13.3 feet. Flood stage is 14.0 feet. Minor flooding is
forecast...with a maximum stage of 14.0 feet this afternoon. The
river is forecast to recede to 13.0 feet by late Thursday morning.
At 14.0 feet...minor flooding begins in the southwestern Carson
Valley between Centerville and Genoa NV. About 2200 cfs.
These river forecasts are based on forecast rainfall and temperature
conditions at time of issuance. If actual conditions vary from these
forecasts...river conditions will vary accordingly. River forecasts
include current and planned Reservoir releases.
Be alert for heavy rain upstream of your location which could cause
additional rapid rises on rivers and streams. Valuables should
moved away from areas subject to flooding. Never drive through
flooded areas. Follow the directions of emergency officials. Stay
