Lessee now.

I wanna figure if I have this right.

Last year our state was in the red and, without a huge tax increase, would file for bankruptcy and all residents would end up serving time. Even the Legislature was called into special session and everybody in that big building ended up hating everybody else.

Now, a year later, the state has an abundance of money and the Gov says there will be a revolt if "the people" don't get some of the big surplus returned. He proposes that Hummer drivers should get a bigger rebate than Kia owners, but everybody gets a piece.

Wow, we must be rolling in the dough.

Wait a minute!! At the same time we're talking about getting all this money back, the state is nipping around the edges and we finally figure out we're in for a 30-40% Property Tax increase.

So I ask ya - where's Howard Jarvis when you need him??

Doug Sonnemann, the Douglas County Assessor, has some answers for us.

Come to the SIERA meeting on March 17. 7 PM. The usual place.
