Many of us appreciate getting our forward looking schedules lined up so we can make best use of our time and resources. Following is a listing of the upcoming SIERA general meeting programs:

February 17 - The National Weather Service needs us as their eyes. Many of us are Spotters. This program is designed to re-enforce that decision. For those that are not yet Spotters, to explain the value to the community by volunteering for the program. Ample time allotted for Q&A. This program is an excellent PowerPoint presentation. Literature will be available to show the details of what NOAA wants us to look for.

March 17 - RGJ reports it as "Legislature's most critical issue this session: exploding tax bills". Whether you are in Douglas or Lyon Counties, or Carson City, the next few years spell "substantial increases" in property taxes. Doug Sonnemann is the Douglas County Assessor and will present the detailed reasons for the increases. We may not be able to do much about the increases but it is most helpful to know the reasons! Perfect timing as the Legislature will be a month into session and we'll get the latest info. Plenty of time for Q&A.

April 21 - East Fork Fire will give us some background and details in their role of keeping Douglas County safe and under control during disasters. There will a small part of the presentation on the role of the back-up communicator, but the main purpose of the program is so we can gain insights in the overall role of our fire department.

May 19 - Will Lewis (kd7nir) will delve into the final details of the upcoming Pony Express re-ride, smoothing out assignments and assuring that we are all up to date and understand the role of not only you, but everyone else involved in this exciting event.

June 16 - Date of our usual meeting, but the following item substitutes for this date. Anyone having a desire to put together a program (radio and/or club related) on this date will be met with applause and appreciation. The meeting place is available to us.

June 23 - Our annual Lampe Park get together to swap re-ride stories and to enjoy further interface with many of the pony riders.

July 21 and August 18 - These two months are dark months for SIERA. The meeting facility is available to the club and, in the past, we have provided rather impromptu sessions. This year, if you have an interest item or program and are willing to put the meeting together, we request your input and will work with you to accomplish your goal. Let us hear from you.

SIERA meets at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church on Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. Programs initiate at 7 PM (usually lasting about an hour) and are followed with an interesting business meeting. Coffee and refreshments are provided during the break, offering time for members to one-on-one interface with the program presenters. Your participation is desired, requested and appreciated.
