Special Weather Statement
635 am PST Thu Dec 23 2004

...Winter storms to affect Sierra and western Nevada between
Christmas and new years...

Several winter storms could possibly bring snow and difficult
traveling conditions to the Sierra and western Nevada during the
Holiday week after Christmas. The first weather system is expected to
bring strong winds Saturday night ahead of cold front which
is forecast to bring snow into the northern Sierra late Saturday
night and spread south and east along the Sierra and into western
Nevada on Sunday. Heavy snow and strong winds will combine to
create poor visibilities at times in blowing snow over the passes
and other exposed areas in the Sierra on Sunday. Snow is forecast
to decrease Sunday night with lingering snow showers in the
Sierra Monday. A possible break for travelers on Tuesday ahead of
another potentially stronger storm foreast to push into the Sierra
and western Nevada Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Persons planning travel in the Sierra on Sunday and for much of the
following week should be prepared for winter driving conditions.
Check NOAA Weather Radio...the internet or your local news source for
the latest updates to these developing winter weather systems.
