Good day to all of you,
Many of you may know, or know of Dr.C.J."Dan" McGrew Jr., the first
family practice doctor in the Spring Hill Florida area and a retired
Navy doctor (Capt,USN Ret.).
He passed away peacefully tonight ( August 23rd 2011) at 7:00 PM at his
home in Spring Hill.
Dan was a member of the community of 100 (top 100 businesses in Hernando
county) and was responsible in part for getting the first hospital ( now
called Oak Hill Hospital) into the Spring Hill area and was the first
chief of staff at Oak Hill. He started and operated the Doctors clinic
at the Hernando Community Blood Bank (now called Life South) to provide
care for indigent patients and saw patients at the Hernando County
Health Department on a weekly basis. He had a firm belief in helping
others and providing service to the community.
Dan also was very active in missions to other countries. While serving
in the Navy he took a sabbatical and served as a missionary for 6 months
in India to work as a doctor and bring the word of God to many needy
people. After retiring, and moving to Spring Hill, he was active in
supplying medicine to the mission clinic, computers to the local
collage, and basic needs to the Island of Utila off of the coast of
Honduras, and went down on building missions to that Island with other
volunteers from the First Methodist Church in Brooksville.
At home Dan would spend many hours in the garden, practicing with his
green thumb, to raise vegetables, flowers and plants. He was well known
for some of the varieties of African violets and orchids that he raised
and was a member of the African violet club in Spring Hill.
These are a small part of the active life of Dan McGrew.....he will be
missed.
I will have more information to follow in the next day or so.
Alan McGrew
