Morning SFDXA Group,

Update, last night FT8WW decided to switch to EVEN, like I recommend they do on day one....must have figured it out it was causing QRM on the bands by TX on ODD cycle, hams who were trained to in hound mode during a DX Expedition were TX on his cycle.

SO, my recommendations today to work Crozet FT8WW is to set TX to ODD, used only standard FT8, not hound mode and double click on his call, and you should be ready to Enable TX calling.

We can only hope he will stay on ODD the entire time he is activated on Crozet!

GOOD DX and
Happy New Year,

Hi All,
Want to make a slight correction, FT8WW is using MSHV, which is a cloned version of WSJT-X, but with some changes, like it can be run fully automated, which is against the FCC rules, we licensed by the FCC have to be at the controls of our stations when making a contact.

When trying to make a contact with FT8WW.....
You do not want to be in Hound mode while calling FT8WW, if you are in hound mode it force you to TX on the ODD cycle, and  that will be on the same TX cycle as FT8WW. You need to be in Normal FT8 mode. Insure you have TX on Even Checked for TX for a contact with FT8WW.  He has always been TX on ODD cycle since he started.

I made a ATNO with him within the 1st hour he want active and saw he was TX on the odd cycle. I asked Thierry on Crozet IS and his manager Paul in France if he could change his TX cycle to Even, just a click of one check box in MSHV, and he would then be on the same cycle  like a Fox does in Fox/ Hound mode in WSJT-x Doing this would prevent lots of hams in hound mode TX on the wrong cycle. FT8WW refused to make this change, I was told: Hams should know how to operate FT8! 🙁  Oh well, I tried, ....You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.

We have told hams to use hound mode to make DX contacts in a DX expedition, but this DX expedition to Crozet happens to be an exception to the rules that we started with FT8 mode with Joe Taylor's defaults in WSJT-x.

3YOJ Bouvet IS, Dx expedition, will be using Fox and Hound with WSJT-x, We have been in contact with them to insure they have the newest released Version to operate with,  so all should be normal FT8 Fox/Hound operations when they are on the air.

Happy NEW YEAR

Thanks Bill for the news update.

For those who need Crozet.. (I'm sure there are a few) FT8WW has been spotted pretty regularly on 30 meters FT8 on 10131.0.  He is also now being spotted on 20 meters.

He is running MSHV software (not sure what that is) not WSJT.  For a while he was transmitting in the ODD sequence which created a problem.  It looked like he is running Fox and Hound mode, since he has 3 streams running, and many folks were using F&H mode which forced them to transmit in the ODD sequence.  This was causing many guys to call and call on his sequence which has been a problem.  He is now (according to QRZ) transmitting on EVEN sequence which should help that problem.

Be patient.. this is a one man operation and operating time is limited.  He is workable in the evenings on 30 meters.  If you want to get a feel for his operating habits, go to DXSummit and search his call for spots.

Good luck guys!

Very 73,
