Donetsk People’s Republic and
Luhansk People’s Republic
As of yesterday the Russian
Federation recognized two parts of Eastern Ukraine and it is
expected that many United Nation member countries, closely
related to Russia, will endorse that recognition. Many seasoned
DXers are now asking whether there will be one or two ATNOs in
the making? The Daily DX presented that question to OH2BH,
Martti Laine, DXCC architect from that region and here is his
answer.
“No I am not on my way to Donetsk
or Luhansk, but the question is indeed rather interesting”,
Martti stated. “As all potentially new political entities, as an
addition of the criteria itself, should go through a quick
chemical test; Are they member of the United Nations and/or part
of the U.S State Department list of Independent States in the
World?”
As in both cases the answer is no
and it is very unlikely that they would be considered.
Earlier today the NATO Secretary
General stated “In 2015, the United Nations Security Council,
which includes Russia, reaffirmed its full respect for the
sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Donetsk and Luhansk are part of Ukraine”.
