Pete's original call sign was K8UNP (Under Nourished Pete.) He held it longer than N8PR, but we all identify N8PR with him.

There was a group of us guys that were at Pete's house doing antenna work. I had a rope and my job was to watch the main antenna and make sure it didn't get damaged. I took my eyes off of the antenna for about 4 or 5 seconds and when I looked back at it, it was too late. I believe it was  the reflector element that got bent. Pete gave me a glaring look that I will never forget and he never said a word about it. I've always wanted to discuss that with him in person but never got the chance too. If it was my antenna that got damaged and Pete was supposed to make sure it didn't, I would have given him more than a glaring look. :-)

I hope to see some of you guys at the Orlando Hamboree this coming February.

There are other ways to honor Pete. Maybe his call on the side of the trailer, maybe the picnic could be the annual Pete N8PR picnic...etc

I do not believe it would be a good idea to change the club’s Callsign.
I would vote against doing so, but I agree with Jeff, we can find another, more appropriate way to memorialize Pete.
We can discuss this further at our next club meeting if you wish to do so.

Yes we could after it becomes available which may be several years.
His QRZ page is marked "SK". I don't know if the call has been surrounded to the FCC.

I don't think DCARC should ask for the call.

Pete was much more involved with other clubs/organizations.
One example is SFDXA to whom he left all his radio equipment.

As trustee of NA4DC I would honor the club's wishes if they voted to apply for the call.

Personally, I do not want to open that wound every time I hear the call sign on the club repeater.

Could the club apply to the FCC to capture Pete's call sign for use by the club, just as the ARRL did for W1AW, the call sign of their first president, Hiram P. Maxim?
