Above all else Pete, N8PR, was a Mentor (formerly called an "Elmer") to hams and non-hams of all ages.
Shouldn't we look favorably on a "Pete Rimmel, N8PR, Mentor Award?" Nominations to be sent to the SFDXA and DCARC officers for resolution?
He's mentored me on several occasions and topics, the latest was on EME communications.

In respectful memory of Pete,
Kai Siwiak, KE4PT

Ditto. I don't think we should change the club call sign.
I know we have plaques, bricks and other ways to remember him and our other SK friends.

Pete liked operating and he liked to help others learn or improve operating practices or new modes.
I don't think there is a band or mode he didn't use or could talk at length about how to make contacts on except maybe the Ghz stuff (not to many mountains around here).
He also thought the point of field day was to actually make QSO's, not just hang out for a good lunch.
As he said with a smirk many times, "field day is not a contest, its more important than a contest".

For future thought if we want to keep exploring this idea and related to some of what he did for this club, I think he would get a kick out of something like an annual "most QSO's made for the club on field day" award being named after him and given to a club member each year.

There are other ways to honor Pete. Maybe his call on the side of the trailer, maybe the picnic could be the annual Pete N8PR picnic...etc

I do not believe it would be a good idea to change the club’s Callsign.
I would vote against doing so, but I agree with Jeff, we can find another, more appropriate way to memorialize Pete.
We can discuss this further at our next club meeting if you wish to do so.

Yes we could after it becomes available which may be several years.
His QRZ page is marked "SK". I don't know if the call has been surrounded to the FCC.

I don't think DCARC should ask for the call.

Pete was much more involved with other clubs/organizations.
One example is SFDXA to whom he left all his radio equipment.

As trustee of NA4DC I would honor the club's wishes if they voted to apply for the call.

Personally, I do not want to open that wound every time I hear the call sign on the club repeater.

Could the club apply to the FCC to capture Pete's call sign for use by the club, just as the ARRL did for W1AW, the call sign of their first president, Hiram P. Maxim?
