Antennas may look simple—just a piece of metal in the air—but they are 
surprisingly sensitive to their surroundings. Nearby metal objects and 
trees can dramatically affect how an antenna performs, sometimes 
improving it, sometimes hurting it, and occasionally turning a perfectly 
good antenna into an expensive yard ornament.
