The regulator for amateur radio activity in Norway is the*Norwegian 
Communications Authority (NKOM)* and on the 24th of November 2025, they 
announced restrictions on remote control of amateur radio stations.

/Nkom has registered a growing interest in the use of remote control of 
amateur radio stations via the internet. This use is increasing in scope 
and users are constantly finding new "applications" for remote control 
of amateur radio stations./*/Nkom therefore sees the need to regulate

/To prevent abuse, it is proposed to ban remote control of amateur radio 
stations if the amateur radio operator is not physically located on the 
same land area, which is e.g. mainland Norway, Svalbard, Bjørnøya, Jan 
Mayen,/*/Bouvet Island/*/, Peter Is Øy or Norwegian land areas in 
Antarctica. This measure will help ensure fairness and integrity in 
amateur radio activities, and prevent anyone from exploiting the system

There is a growing trend for expeditions to use remote operation where 
an operator can be anywhere in the world and then control a remote radio 
over the internet via something like Starlink.
